Suggy’s Gym and NMA Fitness Centre have been putting on shows in Newark for 12 years. But when Superstar Fight League 1, incorporating Rookies Rumble IV, comes to the Magnus Sports Centre on Saturday 4 October, fight fans will be in for an action-packed event with a difference.
In a first for Newark, all of the evening’s match ups will take place in the cage, with Mixed Martial Arts, K-1 and the ever popular Kickboxing formats showcasing the skills of leading professional fighters alongside those of some of Newark’s finest up and coming young talent.
Headlining on the Superstar Fight League programme, Regis ‘The First’ Sugden takes on the current Battle Arena MMA British Champion Rory Foster. “Rory has beaten his last five opponents by submission so he will be very confident going into this fight,” says Suggy’s Gym head coach Dean Sugden.
“Regis is very experienced in the world of stand up but in recent months he’s taken the world of MMA by storm with some devastating action in the cage. Now we’re looking to test him even further and get him as much experience as possible in the octagon.”
In another test for Suggy’s Gym, wrestling supremo Krzysiek Adamczyk will be looking for his sixth win when he takes on Siam MMA’s Ross Gallagher, who brings a fight record of seven wins and one loss to the table.
Other MMA contests feature fighters from Gainsborough gym Gorilla Fight Team, while Newark youngsters Sam Hardy and Jordan Haywood are also in action and the fighting Price Brothers Alfie and Andrew meet opponents from Storm Gym in Luton and All Powers Gym in Bedford.
In what is expected to be a great clash of styles, Newark kickboxer Megan Williams heads up the Rookies Rumble junior fight card, taking on the well-schooled Thai fighter Danielle Butler from Peun Tann Gym in an ISKA English K-1 title fight.
Bailey ‘BadBoy’ Sugden, one of Newark’s most exciting young fighters, makes his C Class Thai Rules debut on the night. His opponent is Danny Butler from All Powers Gym, whose 13 wins and one loss in this discipline will make the contest yet another test for the Newark camp.
Lewis Fallon returns to action under K-1 rules, Jack Simmons takes on local rookie Lewis Bowman from Thai-Tanium Gym in Leicester and fans of heavyweight action will be looking forward to the final fight of the night, in which K-1 Super Heavyweight Alex Bratton enters the cage against Manchester’s Liam Cawley.
Doors open at 7pm with the first fight starting at 7.30pm and a licensed bar and hot food will be available throughout the evening.
VIP tickets for this all-action event are sold out but unreserved standard seating can still be purchased at £25 for adults and £15 for under 16s in advance (£30 and £20 on the door) from NMA Fitness Centre, 49 Castlegate in Newark or via the ticket line on 07816 840920.
