Juniors’ turn to shine

Following in the footsteps of Suggy’s Gym senior amateurs and professionals, five up and coming young kickboxers were flying the flag for NMA in Birmingham yesterday.

Coaches Regis SugdenBailey Sugden and Megan Williams, together with a group of proud parents, were on hand to support the youngsters and see them take an impressive five wins and one draw on the BLCC event at Aero Kick Gym.

NMA’s youngest fighter on the day was seven-year old Rhys Alexander, who drew against USKA’s Nikita Rambiska.

There were two victories for eight-year old James Jordan, who defeated both Aero Kick’s Qasim Dhad and Kane Sarginson of Huntingtons, and another win for Malachi Edlin (8) against Qasim Ahmed from BKA.

Completing the line-up for NMA were brothers Hayden Lewell (10), who beat Aadam Ali of USKA,  and John Lewell (11) who defeated Giokick’s Owen Tonks.

“The kids all loved it – we were like one big family, cheering each other on,” said Rhys’s dad Neil Alexander. “Thanks to Regis, Bailey and Megan and everyone at Suggy’s Gym for giving them the chance to gain this experience.”

“Everyone gave their all and the support from the parents was fantastic,” said Bailey after the event. “It’s a pleasure to teach all of the youngsters who train with us in Newark and to see our future stars doing so well.”
