Newark’s amateur boxers get set for second Home Show

Some of Newark Amateur Boxing Club’s most promising young prospects are preparing to showcase their skills again this weekend, when The NABC Home Show returns to Farndon Memorial Hall on Saturday 23 June.

“Back in February, our first ever Home Show sold out and at the end of the evening we celebrated an almost clean sweep for the club,” said Suggy’s Gym senior coach and NABC matchmaker Irvine Taylor.

“We took nine victories out of ten bouts that night and since then we’ve seen more wins from several of the youngsters involved. Now The NABC Home Show 2 will give everyone on the card an opportunity to show how all their training over the last four months is paying off and just how much they are continuing to progress.”

The full fight card is still being finalised but local fans and followers will be cheering on some familiar young boxers in the ring at Farndon, with nine NABC members ranging in age from 11 to 26 matched against opponents from other amateur clubs across the region and beyond.

The main event of the evening features 26-year old Jade Grierson, who made her boxing debut for NABC on the February show. Jade gets her first shot at an amateur title when she fights Storm Steele of Spire Boxing Academy for the vacant East Midlands 69-75kg Challenge Belt.

Also fighting out of the Newark corner are 12-year old Sam Hardy, who returns to the ring just four weeks after becoming the town’s first ever National Minors Champion to take on Logan Rees from Cwmgors Police Boxing Club, and Megan Williams who will be hoping to celebrate her 17th birthday a few days early with a victory over Abbie McKay from Salisbury ABC.

Joining them on the card are fellow NABC members Deivids Paulauskas, Alfie Briggs-Price, Mac O’Brian, Louis Clark, Adam Robb and Luke Baker.

Doors open at 5.30pm, with the first bell at 6.15pm, and hot food and a licensed bar will be available throughout the evening.

“Tickets are £15 each for adults and £10 for kids but they’re being snapped up very quickly so, if you haven’t got yours yet, you need to call or text me on 07415 313749 as soon as possible to check last minute availability,” added Irvine. “Just bear in mind that there’ll be no tickets for sale on the door because they’ll all be gone before Saturday.”
